This is the Quintessential NY Pizza for me, a 5/5, 10/10, probably the best American-style or New York-style pizza I've had in America. Maybe L'Industrie challenges it? But not sure... REASONS: The crust: My favorite pizza crust, with the signature thin and crispy dough. Light enough to be floppy, but also strong enough to stay together when you fold it in your hand. And the first crispy bite of flavor is just food heaven. The pizza crust also has quite a bit of flavor, which is rare in most pizzas, and is perfectly baked to get the nearly burnt but crunchy texture. The cheese: The fresh mozzarella is my favorite, so savory and melts in your mouth. The tomato sauce: Those San Marzano whole-peeled tomatoes really shine in this sauce, which is bursting with flavor. Get the fresh mozzarella slice! Although the classic cheese and Sicilian slice are good too. $3-5 for a slice is a great deal, $25 for a pie. Cash Only, fast service, the line can be long but always moves fast.

Had to try the famous Joe's pizza at this original location! It's a hole in the wall kind of place so expect to pay for your pizza and eat it elsewhere. Lots of people opt to eat it standing outside the restaurant. It gets pretty crowded but the line goes pretty quickly. They pre-make the popular pizzas and just stick it in the oven for a quick heat-up when you order. The flavor is solid. What makes them stand out is the crispiness of the dough. It's impressive how they can make such a thin pizza and have the bottom part still be crispy despite the heavy toppings above (tomato sauce, cheese, pepperoni). Not soggy at all if eaten immediately!

Came to the infamous "Joe's on Carmine" as part of my own personal pizza crawl of the West Village. It absolutely held its own amongst viral pizzerias like L'Industrie and Mama's Too. I tried (more so devoured) a Cheese slice during my visit. Came out pretty quickly despite the larger turnout that afternoon. Little to no flop, beautiful crisp on the crust, a surprisingly fresh tasting tomato sauce. All the pizza buzzword apply here. It felt like one of those cases where the whole slice accomplishes much more than just the sum of its parts. For those looking for a peaceful, sit-down meal: You may not find that here. Expect constant movement and minimal seating. Try to romanticize it; the chaos makes the pizza taste better. I came into this half-expecting hype, and I came out a believer. Look no further if you're craving a no-frills, quintessential New York slice.

You can't come to NYC and not try at least a few different kinds of pizza. We were in the area anyway and noticed Joe's Pizza, and even though we'd just eaten a huge sandwich at Katz's, we popped in to share a slice. We got the plain cheese, as that seemed like the quintessential New York thing to do. After a few minutes in the oven, it was ready. It's a good slice of 'za. The flavorful cheese and sweet (but not too sweet) sauce are really tasty, and the crispy crust is good but I'll admit I did find it a little too crispy. Maybe it was reheated for a little too long? At any rate, I can't really complain because it really was delicious. Just not life changing delicious.

Coming to NY?? Go to Joe's Pizza it won't disappoint & I guarantee you will crave it after and for day. Such a simple concept but oh so good in so many different ways. The sauce, the dough the crispness & freshness is what won me over and I love a good pizza and this was it. Believe the hype. When we came in it wasn't too full but I felt every couple minutes people came in and out. There is limited seating inside but there is some outside as well or people just take it to go. Love the olds school vibes here and all the pictures in the wall of famous people that have been there. The customer service was quick and the guys here are so hardworking & chill. Love the experience here and can't wait to come back. Already craving it!!
